At Novartis in Basel, Switzerland, we are seeking a passionate and experienced Research Scientist to join our Immunology Department. In this hands-on laboratory role, you will design, execute, and interpret innovative in vivo and ex vivo studies to advance understanding of disease biology and therapeutic mechanisms, contributing directly to the discovery and development of medicines for autoimmune and immune-mediated diseases.
Tasks
- Design, coordinate, and execute complex in vivo immunology studies supporting discovery and translational research objectives.
- Conduct rodent disease and mechanistic pharmacology studies while ensuring high-quality experimental execution.
- Perform ex vivo immunological analyses, including flow cytometry, cytokine profiling, and biomarker assessment.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data to generate actionable scientific insights and project recommendations.
- Optimize existing methods and contribute to the development of innovative research approaches and assays.
- Maintain accurate study documentation, experimental records, and scientific presentations aligned with compliance standards.
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary project teams to advance immunology programs and support key decision-making.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, or laboratory technician qualification in a relevant life sciences discipline.
- Minimum five years of hands-on immunology research experience in an academic or industry environment.
- Strong expertise conducting rodent in vivo studies, including disease models and mechanistic pharmacology studies.
- Proven experience with cellular immunology techniques, flow cytometry, cytokine profiling, and biomarker analysis.
- Ability to independently design, execute, analyze, and interpret complex scientific experiments.
- Excellent scientific communication, organizational skills, and ability to collaborate within cross-functional research teams.
- Experience working with human peripheral blood mononuclear cells and humanized mouse models (desirable).
- Experience supporting assay development, optimization, and implementation of novel immunological techniques (desirable).
