SIX drives the transformation of financial markets, blending tradition and future, foundation and growth. The company values bright minds and encourages them to grow with their ideas. Join SIX and help shape the future of finance.

SIX runs the infrastructure behind the Swiss and Spanish financial markets, including exchanges, post-trade, financial information, and banking services. Every year, SIX invests a substantial budget in projects that shape this infrastructure. The team ensures that investments deliver what was promised and provides the Executive Board with a clear view of the portfolio. This is a period of active redesign, not maintenance.

This internship is limited to 6 months.

Your tasks

  • Run the monthly project controlling close by coordinating actuals, forecasts, and variances across the portfolio, and challenge the numbers before they reach management.
  • Build the portfolio view for senior management by preparing reporting, dashboards, and briefing material for the Executive Board and its committees, turning data from dozens of projects into actionable messages.
  • Work alongside the Portfolio Manager and project controllers on project reviews, assessing business cases, budget, scope, and timeline, and identifying key information for leadership.
  • Shape the methodology by helping design and test new templates, decision criteria, and governance formats, and see them used in real investment decisions.
  • Find smarter ways to work using data analysis, Excel, modeling, and AI tools to automate reporting and surface insights faster.
  • Take on a defined analytical project, such as benchmarking how other FMIs and banks allocate capital or analyzing drivers of cost and schedule overruns in the portfolio, and present findings to team leadership at the end of the internship.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s student, or recent graduate, in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Industrial Engineering or a related field, with a strong academic record.
  • A genuine interest in corporate finance, strategy, and how large organizations make investment decisions.
  • Strong analytical skills: comfortable in Excel, able to build a clean model, and understand that a number without a story is useless.
  • Clear writing and visual thinking: able to compress a complex situation into one slide.
  • Rigor and reliability: handling numbers that management relies on and noticing when something doesn’t add up.
  • Initiative: suggesting improvements rather than waiting to be asked.
  • Fluent in German and English.
  • Prior experience in consulting, audit, banking, or corporate finance is a plus, not a requirement.
